I Go High is a story which freezes time for anyone who has used his or her imagination to reach high for something. The little girl uses her imagination to reach for the cookie jar, which is always kept on top of the refrigerator. This character finds creative techniques to get to the cookies. The story emphasizes that we need to work hard to get to the things that we really want. There is also a favorite cookie recipe included at the end. Since children are naturally creative and use their imaginations, readers will identify with the character in this book, and adults who read the story to children will find this character as one who will cause them to both cherish the past and embrace the future.
Author, Jeanne Hager Burth, EdD, is a professor of Teacher Education and a former teacher of Special Education, Elementary, and Gifted Support. She served as an elementary principal for nine years and taught higher education in three universities. Burth has published several articles about students with disabilities and quality professional development and a book that serves as a practical guide to transitioning to adulthood entitled, Transitioning from School to Adulthood Practical Activities for Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Other Disabilities.
No stranger to the anxieties felt on the first day of school for children and teachers, Burth has also recently released the children’s book, It Makes Me Feel Good. The main character in this picture book unknowingly starts a trend in her classroom by choosing to wear things that make her feel special.
